    Ron and Hermione’s Story

When Ron and Hermione first meet on the Hogwarts Express, they seem to clash immdiately. Especially Ron looks like he is very annoyed with this bushy-haired know-it-all. But despite having “The boy Who Lived” in the same car as her, Hermione seems completely focused on Ron. After a Charms lesson at Halloween, Hermione overhears Ron calling her a nightmare and subsequently she spends the afternoon crying in the bathroom, skipping classes. She doesn’t even turn up for the Halloween Feast. Therefore, she doesn´t know that a troll had been let loose in the castle. Harry and Ron remember her being in a bathroom and they save her from the troll. After that experience, the three become friends. From then on, Ron and Hermione get to know each other better and they get on quite good, only snapping at each other occasionally. An argumentative dynamc establishes between them. But they stick together and are able to cooperate very well, mostly to help Harry.

Ron and Hermione write letters to each other during summer break. The friendship between them and Harry becomes closer. Although their tendency to bicker increases, Ron becomes protective of Hermione. He tries to hex Draco Malfoy after the latter insults Hermione and calls her a ‘mudblood’. Due to a malfunctioning wand, Ron ends up puking slugs for hours. Together the trio tries to unravel the secret about the monster that has already attacked and petrified a couple of muggle-born students. Then Hermione gets petrified. Both boys are shocked but Ron seems to be more affected. The two decide to go into the Forbidden Forest to visit the Acrumantula, hoping to find something out that could help Hermione and the other victims. Although being afraid of spiders, Ron agrees to accompany Harry and face his fear for the sake of Hermione, as he sadly looks at her empty seat next ot him. Thanks to what Harry and Ron find out, Hermione and the other victims can be cured. Ron is exceptionally happy that Hermione has recovered.

Hermione and Ron again have a penchant for writing letters, as becomes obvious in Hermione’s letter to Harry, which mentions Ron at least five times in the short note. After summer break, Ron and Hermione meet in Diagon Alley to do their shopping together. To Ron´s horror, Hermione buys herself the exact cat that had tried to attack Ron and his pet rat Scabbers before. Their pets turn out to be a constant source of disagreement, since Hermione doesn´t seem to take Ron´s concern seriously that her cat, Crookshanks, might hurt Scabbers. During the school year they have their first serious fallout when Hermione turns Harry´s new Firebolt in to Prof. McGonagall to be checked for safety. Ron and Harry stop talking to Hermione. Before they can thoroughly make up, Ron discovers that Scabbers has supposedly been eaten and all the evidence points to Crookshanks. When Hermione refuses to believe in her pet´s guilt, they resume their silent treatment. Nonetheless, Ron keeps an eye on Hermione and her whereabouts and is very concerned about her and her seemingly overly full schedule, even going as far as to track her movements and ask around about her appearence in classes. When Hagrid´s Hippogriff Buckbeak gets sentenced to death, although Hermione had worked out a defense strategy for the court, Ron offers his help for the appeal, despite months of arguing and silent anger. Upon seeing her cry over the sentance of Buckbeak, Ron even offers up the concession that Scabbers was old anyway and that he wasn’t angry at all. Greatful and relieved, Hermione throws herself into his arms and apologizes for Scabbers. The two of them are best friends again and cooperate to help Harry.

For the first time, Hermione stays at the Burrow for a couple of weeks during summer break. Harry arrives later and together with Arthur, Ginny and the twins, the trio visits the final of the Quidditch World Cup, where Ron takes a liking to Veelas, much to Hermione´s chagrin. When Ron begins to crush on the beautiful part-Veela Fleur Delacour, who comes to Hogwarts to participate in the Triwizard Tournament, Hermione becomes very annoyed. After Harry gets chosen as a Triwizard Champion, Ron and he fight. Hermione tries to reconcile between the two, explaining Ron´s feelings to Harry, thus showing how much she understands how Ron ticks. When a Yule Ball is announced, Hermione is very interested in who Ron will go to the ball with, engaging in a few disputes, annoyed by Ron´s desire for a pretty partner, clearly hoping he would invite herself. When he finally does, it is as a last resort and in a very rude, immature manner, Hermione retorts with already having a date, upon which Ron continues to ask her who that date is. Bulgarian Seeker and Triwizard Champian Viktor Krum appears at the ball with Hermione as a partner and thus turns from adored Quidditch Star to Persona Non Grata and enemy No. 1 within seconds for Ron, who shows great jealousy at his former idol. After the ball, Ron and Hermione argue and Hermione leaves with the order for Ron to invite her the next chance before someone else does and not as a last resort. Of course Ron is rendered stunned, speechless, and confused at that statement, and Harry really doesn’t want to have to set him right just yet. After that, Ron and Hermione act as usual, if anything, a bit more polite around each other. Because Hermione indicates that Krum had invited her over the summer to Bulgaria, Ron shows annoyance and great interest in whether she will go or not. This question however is not resolved. At the end of the school year, the foreign students leave. Ron and Hermione both show slight annoyance by the attention the other gets by Fleur and Viktor respectively. Nonethless, Ron asks Krum for an autograph, seemingly relieved at his rival´s departure.

Hermione spends almost no time at home with her parents during summer break. Most of the time, Ron and Hermione are at Grimmauld Place #12, the Headquarters for the reinstated Order of the Phoenix, where they help cleaning up the house. On Dumbledore´s orders, they do not divulge this secret to Harry, who arrives at Grimmauld Place much later. When they are back at school, they learn that their new Defense against the Dark Artst teacher, Ministry official Dolores Umbridge, is not willing to properly teach them practical defense. Ron and Hermione are prefects now and share some duties during the school year, causing Harry to feel a small sense of loss as his friends go off on prefect duties. Ron immediately supports Hermione when she suggests Harry should teach them DADA secretly. When Ron is nervous about his first Quidditch match as Keeper for Gryffindor, Hermione gives him a good-luck kiss, leaving Ron dazed and confused. For Christmas, Ron gives Hermione a perfume, thus acknowledging that he has realized Hermione is indeed a girl. This present also has romantic connotations. Hermione finds the perfume ‘unusual’. After Harry has a vision of Sirius being held at the Department of Mysteries in the Ministry of Magic, Ron and Hermione alongside Ginny, Neville and Luna accompany Harry on his rescue mission. It turns out to be a trap and the six run into Death Eaters. During the fight, Ron and Hermione get separated and both severly injured. Thanks to the Order and Dumbledore arriving, they can be rescued and Ron and Hermione have to spend the rest of the school year that the Hopital wing.

As usual, Hermione arrives at the Burrow during summer break a few days before Harry. Much to her chagrin, Bill´s fiancée Fleur stays at the Weasleys as well. Besides her sometimes condescending behaviour, it is the fact that Ron still seems to be affected by Fleur´s beauty and her veela powers that enrages Hermione most. She and Ron continue their bickering game. When they are back at Hogwarts, Harry is astonished about the attention so many girls now pay him. While Hermione explains to Harry why he has become so fanciable, Ron seeks her attention by pointing out that these things apply to him as well. But Hermione ignores him. Harry is made Quidditch captain. Despite of that, Ron has to try out for the position of Keeper on the Gryffindor house-team again. Cormac McLaggen, who also tries out for Keeper, insults Ron and Ginny upon which Hermione confunds him so that he lets one Quaffle in. Ron makes the team because he catches all of them. Ron feels – again – left out, because his friends and Ginny are members of Slughorn´s exclusive Students´ club while he is not and starts a fight with Hermione about Slughorn´s upcoming Christmas party. To his pleasure, Hermione reveals that she had planned to ask him out to this event. During a fierce fight with Ginny, who mocks his inexperience with girls, Ron learns that Hermione and Krum supposedly snogged. Humilated and hurt Ron gives Hermione the cold shoulder. When additionally Hermione seems to doubt his Quidditch abilities after the first match, Ron begins to snog Lavender, who had flirted with him since the start of term. Heartbroken, Hermione sends magical canaries at Ron and stops talking to him. This seems to be the end of their friendship. When Ron is accidentally poisoned on his 17th birthday and almost dies, Hermione forgets about everything and hurries to his bedside, where she hears him unconsciously mumble her name: ‘Er-my-nee’. From then on, Ron and Hermione are best friends again. The two get on better than ever, Ron even lets slip an ‘I love you’. Eventually he and Lavender break up, much to Hermione´s joy. At Dumbledore´s funeral the two are very close, comforting each other, crying in each others arms.

The summer before what should be their seventh year found Ron and Hermione on the road to romance. Hermione spent almost her entire summer at Ron’s home, poring over books to get ready for their journey to destroy the horcruxes. Ron pored over a book of his own, one that he received from his brothers to help with Hermione called “Twelve Fail safe Ways…”. The book seemed to work. He comforted her when she was sad or frightened, and attempted to cheer her up when her moods got low. She in turn supported him when he stood up to tell his family they were not going back to school.Fetching Harry proved to be a harrowing experience, induced with polyjuice potion and Deatheaters. Ron and Hermione quickly found each other in an embrace of relief and affection upon returning from the first adventure of the year. When the day of Bill and Fleur’s wedding arrived, Ron and Hermione did not fall into the petty games they used to play, even after the arrival of Victor Krum. Instead, they danced together throughout most of the summer evening, just enjoying each other’s company. The moment ended quickly as Deatheaters attacked the wedding and The Trio had to escape. Luckily, Hermione came ready. When they were attacked again, Ron jumped in front of a curse meant toward her, and they eventually went into hiding at Number Twelve Grimmauld Place. While there, Ron and Hermione managed to find small ways to display their growing affection for one another despite the war and fear billowing around them. They slept near each other, their hands almost touching. When Ron heard tell of his family safe and sound, Hermione shared an embrace with him in joy. When Hermione was frightened by a very macabre security measure, Ron calmed her down. And when they found out that Muggleborns were being forced to register, Ron vowed to hide her and she put her hand over his and told him it was no use. When the trio broke into the ministry, Ron (under the polyjuice of Reg Cattermole) paused to worry about the family of the man he was impersonating. Hermione could be found then, gazing at him with a tenderness that was unrivaled by anything else they had expressed openly during their friendship.

When Ron temporarily left his friends, Hermione cried over him for weeks; Ron was able to return by hearing Hermione’s voice saying his name come out of his Deluminator. When Ron destroyed the locket Horcrux, it taunted him with visions of his greatest fears, included that Hermione preferred Harry to him. Hermione was initially furious with Ron to the point of physically attacking him, though she eventually forgave them. Later on, when the trio was brought to Malfoy Manor and Bellatrix Lestrange isolated Hermione for torture, Ron begged to take her place. Bellatrix ignored him and tortured Hermione for information with repeated use of the Cruciatus Curse; hearing her screams made Ron fret desperately and repeatedly shout her name; it had reduced him to sobs. During the Battle of Hogwarts, Hermione was touched when Ron expressed concern for the castle’s house-elves and initiated a kiss.

Sometime after the end of the Second Wizarding War, Ron and Hermione married and had two children, Rose and Hugo Weasley.
