    The biography

Rupert Alexander Lloyd Grint was born on August 21 1988 in Hertfordshire, England. He’s the first child of Nigel Grint (A race car memorial dealer) and Jo Grint (Homemaker). One of the things that make him similar to his character on the Harry Potter series, Ron weasley, is his big family. Rupert has one brother, James Grint, born in 1990, and three sisters, Georgina (born 1993), Samantha (born 1996) and Charlotte (born 1999). Before being cast in Harry Potter, he had only appeared in plays for school and his local theatre group, Top Hat Stage School. As a young child, he was once cast as a fish in a play based on the story of Noah’s Ark.

A self-proclaimed fan of the Harry Potter book series, young Rupert was interested in getting a role in the film. He send an image of himsefl and waited but got no response. As he was determined to get the part of his favorite character, he decided to sent a video in which he dressed as his drama teacher (which happens to be a woman) and did a rap song about how much he wanted the part. He was then called to audition for the role and after several auditions, he was called into the producers office alongside Emma Watson, and they were told at the same time they had gotten the roles of Ron and Hermione. Rupert’s first thought was “cool”.

In 2001, Rupert made his film debut with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and was well accepted by critics, probably being the most acclaimed, of the three main actors. Despite the fact that he felt “weird when people recognise me”, he was keen to start the second installment of the series.

In 2002, Rupert reprised his role of Ron Weasley in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in which he had to face one of his phobias: spiders, just like his character. That same year, and released before Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, he appeared as Alan A. Allen in the british comedy film Thuderpants, in which he had his hair permed for his character.

By the time Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was released in 2004, Rupert because one of the most famous teenagers around the world and he continued receiving critical praise. Alfonso CuarĂ³n, director of the third film, mentioned that Rupert “the likely future star out of the Hogwarts trio.”

When Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was released in 2005, it was clear for the critics that Rupert’s future is in the film industry, receivingmany praises for his portrayal of Ron Weasley.

Rupert decided that it was time for another non-Potter project and in 2006 he appeared along with with Laura Linney and Julie Walters (Mrs. Weasley in the Harry Potter movies) in the coming-of-age story Driving Lessons.

After finishing Driving Lessons, Rupert reprised his role of Ron Weasley for the fifth installment of the series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, released in 2007. On July 9, 2007, Rupert and fellow Harry Potter co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson left imprints of their hands, feet, and wands in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

A fews after his 19th birthday, Rupert came back to set to once again reprise his role of Ron Weasley in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which is set to be released by 2008. In this movie Ron gets a girlfriend, Lavender Brown, and according to David Yates Rupert had to kiss the aspirants for the role to see if there was chemestry between them.

In July 2004, Rupert finished Richard Hale School, taking his GCSE examinations, after that, he decided to put on hold his education and dedicate his time to his acting career. When he’s not filming, he enjoys playing golf, football (soccer), and video games. He also enjoys riding his unicycle and bike. He has a big interest in drawing/sketching, he once did a caricature of Alan Rickman as Snape. Even though he enjoys acting he still hasn’t get used to fame, and still feels weird when people recognise him. Rupert recently bought an ice cream man, claiming that if he couldn’t continue with his acting career he will use his ice cream van.
