The Biography
Bonnie Kathleen Wright was born on February 17, 1991 in London, England. She’s the second child of Sheila Teague and Gary Wright; the both of them are jewellery designers and own the jewellery company, Wright & Teague Jewellery. She has an older brother named Lewis. Bonnie attends The King Alfred School when she’s not filming.
In 1999, the casting team of Harry Potter began looking for kids to star in the series and Bonnie was one of the lucky kids. She says she got the role for her “Determination. I stayed in my Ginny character throughout the whole audition” Bonnie made her film debut as Ginny Weasley with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 2001. Her role had a small participation in the film, only one scene in which she wished “Good Luck” to Harry.
In 2002, she came back for the second installment of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Her role became more prominent with this movie, in which her character deals not only with her crush on the famous boy wizard, Harry Potter, and her school duties but also with a very powerful secret diary that begins to seize her soul and consciousness. In that same year, Bonnie appeared in the Hallmark production Stranded as Young Sarah Robinson.
In 2004, Bonnie reprised her role as Ginny Weasley in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, this time her part was significantly smaller, leaving her with only one line of dialogue. She also appeared in TV film Agatha Christie: A Life in pictures as young Agatha Christie that same year.
Bonnie’s character became a more important supporting character in the fourth and fifth installments of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007). In the fifth film we see Ginny as a powerful witch, blowing up a dummy while practising in the Room of Requirement and reducing it to pieces.
In October 2007, Bonnie made a guest apparance in the Disney’s popular show The Replacements, in the episode 11 of the second season: London Calling. She gave voice to Vanessa, a student from a secret spy school in London who wants to steal the secret guide for the spy but Todd and Riley, along with their family, stop her.
Another voice role she did in 2007, was as Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter and Order of the Phoenix Video Game, which was the first video game of the series to have most of the cast doing their voices of their video game characters.
Bonnie has just finished filming the sixth installment of the Harry Potter series where her character plays a leading role as Harry Potter’s love interest. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince hits theatres in July 17th, 2009 (previously November 21st, 2008).
Bonnie also counts with many other talents and interests: she enjoys art, dance, travelling, and playing musical instruments like the piano, guitar, saxophone, harmonica, and recorder, as well as sports such as football, swimming, tennis, riding, ice skating, surfing (she once went to Australia to surf) and cycling.
